# Solo violin recordings and processing

## Recording source

These files contain a real solo violin performance, not a synthesized violin waveform. They come from **VSCO 2 Community Edition / Solo Violin / Arco Vib**, piano (`p`) dynamic layer.

- Publisher: Versilian Studios.
- Official library: https://versilian-studios.com/vsco-community/
- Official repository: https://github.com/sgossner/VSCO-2-CE
- Pinned source revision: `440300901dfe9275fd84e0b7763af1f8443ae62e`.
- Source directory: `Strings/Solo Violin/Arco Vib/`.
- Recording credits from the upstream README: Sam Gossner and Simon Dalzell; sample cutting by Elan Hickler / Soundemote.
- Solo violin performer listed by the publisher: Lily Lyons. https://versilian-studios.com/vsco-2/
- License: **CC0 1.0 Universal**. The unchanged license is retained as `LICENSE.txt`; original publisher notes are retained as `UPSTREAM-README.md` and `UPSTREAM-Readme.txt`.

Only Community Edition recordings are used. No audio was copied from the user's reference video or uploaded from that video to an external service.

## Selected recordings

The twelve source names follow `LLVln_ArcoVib_{note}_p.wav`, for G3, A3, C4, E4, G4, A4, C5, E5, G5, A5, C6 and E6. Their root MIDI pitches are 55, 57, 60, 64, 67, 69, 72, 76, 79, 81, 84 and 88.

The publisher's quiet-instrument mapping applies **−20 cents** to C4. `manifest.json` preserves this as `tuneCents: -20`; other samples use their unshifted root pitch. The mapping source is https://github.com/sgossner/VSCO-2-CE/blob/SFZ/SViolinVib-Quiet.sfz .

These are sustained bowed single notes with natural vibrato. They are not recorded transitions between notes. No loop points are supplied or invented for this browser pack.

## Browser preparation

All originals were already uncompressed **44,100 Hz, 16-bit integer PCM, two channels**. Original durations are approximately 13.372–17.554 seconds. The complete audio length and both original channels are retained.

The only change to PCM is the same **4× linear gain (+12.0412 dB)** for all twelve recordings. Every browser PCM sample is exactly the corresponding original signed 16-bit integer multiplied by four. There is no per-note normalization, no clipping, no resampling, no channel mixing, no added noise, no synthesized layer, no EQ, and no reverb baked into these files. WAV container metadata is rewritten by Python's standard-library `wave` writer; the untouched source WAVs are kept in the source archive.

No leading audio is trimmed: the conservative test requiring all samples in each consecutive 5 ms window to remain at or below −70 dBFS found **zero removable leading windows** for every file. Quiet bow onset is retained. No trailing audio is trimmed either.

The highest measured source peak was −18.192 dBFS. After the common gain, the highest browser-file peak is approximately **−6.151 dBFS**, with zero clipped samples. The recorded relative level differences between notes remain intact. All sample entries use `gain: 1` in the browser manifest because the common gain is already included in PCM.

`provenance.json` records original and browser sizes, SHA-256 checksums, the upstream Git blob SHA-1, frame counts, durations, peak levels and the processing settings for each sample. Original downloaded bytes were verified against the pinned Git repository. Playback implementation and optional live room processing are separate from this sample pack.
